I remember a night two years ago. I was up at sundance in Park City. My best friend Ryan and I had gone up there becuase we heard that Metallica was coming to play a private party. No one was allowed in club Harry O's and plenty of people were there trying. They had hired extra bouncers to help watch the various entrances and keep people out.
We knew that we needed a new approach to try to get into the show. So we talked to the bouncer and told him that we were in an Austrailian band named Rough Stone and we wanted to talk to the owner about playing a show there. He went back in and came out several minutes later and told us to follow him. We walked through the entrance to the club and we were let into a back room where the owner was waiting. He asked us what we wanted. We could clearly see that he had seen right through our unbelievable cover story, so we decieded to come clean. We told him that we wanted to get into the metallica show and we were willing to do what ever it takes. He laughed at us and I thought for sure that we were finished. He then said that this was the funniest story that he had ever heard and told us that he would get our names on the private guest list for 125 dollars each!
We gladly paid and left the club feeling quite pleased with ourselves. The next day we showed up eight hours early for the show so that we could be in the front row. It was bitter cold outside and we knew that we were in this for the long haul. We took turns getting food and going for bathroom breaks to warm up. But we were the first ones in the club and on the front row of a private party where metallica would be performing.
The show was amazing! The sound was awesome and to be able to see Metallica in such an intimate setting was something that very few people get to experience now. My face hurt about half way throught the show because i couln't stop smiling. Of all the concerts that i had ever been to this one was by far the best. I caught two picks from the Kirk the guitarist, and i got a shot glass from Robert their bass player! I tried to catch a drum stick but i didn't get it on account that i'm short so someone taller than me got it. It was a night to remember the show was awesome and by the end of the night we were so close to passing out from exhaustion that we drove home with the windows down so that the cold would keep us awake. By far one of the most memorable nights of my life.
